Description:
Text French. Société Française de Minéralogie et de Cristallographie was founded in 1878, by the French mineralogist Alfred Louis Olivier Legrand des Cloizeaux (1817-1897), its primary objective was ‘to establish a link between all those who are interested in the progress of Mineralogy and Crystallography'. The society's journal commenced as 'Bulletin de la Société minéralogique de France' (1878-1885), and continued publication, with changes of title to this day. Eminent members of the society who published in the journal include naturalists and petrographers such as Ferdinand-André Fouqué (1828-1904) and Alfred Lacroix (1863-1948); and crystallographers, such as Ernest-François Mallard, Grégoire Wyrouboff (1843-1913) and Henri Dufet; with des Cloizeaux, acting as a link between these two areas of research. The Bulletin includes important papers, observations and descriptions of new minerals, such as Dumortierite, described by Ferdinand Gonnard (Vol. 4, pp.2-8). Some papers are illustrated with lithographic plates and a few with early photographs of minerals mounted on plates.
The present set comprises the first 16 volumes of the journal published between 1878 and 1893, and includes the index volume to accompany the first ten volumes.
