Description:

A complete run of this important journal, documenting the pioneering research of the British Antarctic Survey. The Bulletin commenced publication under the direction of the Antarctic explorer, Sir Vivian Ernest Fuchs (1908-1999). In the foreword to the series Fuchs states that the purpose of the Bulletin was to publish ‘preliminary reports or short notes and papers’. During its 25 years of publication the Bulletin presented over 725 papers, covering a wide range of Antarctic related topics relating to geological, geophysical and biological research. Accompanied with fascinating photographs, maps, etc., subjects include, the human experience of surviving and working in the Antarctic, geology, glaciological observations, polar ships and navigation, meteorology, atmospherics, hydrographic surveys, ornithology, fish, mammals, invertebrates, botany and palaeontology. Most of these papers were based on findings from British Antarctic Survey research stations in the British Antarctic Territory, South Georgia, and British Antarctic Survey research ships. Locations referred to include Adelaide Island, Signy Island, Alexander Island, Graham Islands, King George Island, South Orkney, South Shetland Islands and Falkland Islands. The Bulletin ceased publiction with no. 81, 1988.
