Parts I, III, & IV, first editions. Part II, a later undated re-issue by H.G. Bohn. Complete with all plates as called for. Pt 1: Birds of Prey (1838); Pt II: Incessores (n.d.); Pt III: Rasores and Grallatores (1842); Pt IV: Natatores (1843). The plates have hand-coloured bird portraits on uncoloured backgrounds, and were executed from drawings by J. Stewart. Each of the volumes contains a biography of a naturalist with an accompnying portrait frontispiece: Sir Robert Sibbald (Pt I), William Smellie (Pt II), John Walker (Pt III), Alexander Wilson (Pt IV). Set of new title-pages (in scientific order) for the entire Jardine's Naturalist's Library bound at rear of Vol. IV (which was the final volume published in the series).

4 vols, sm. 8vo, rebound in recent antique-style half calf, spines with raised bands and gt bird designs to compartments, leather title pieces, marbled boards, Vol. II, teg. Pencil/ink annotations and underlining throughout text in Vol. III + IV. Plates clean. Includes a letter to R.E. Coles, Member of the British Ornithologists' Union, 1924.
