Edward Hilton Young, 1st Baron Kennet, (1879 1960) was a British politician and writer, serving in the Royal Navy during the First World War. In 1922 he married Kathleen Scott, widow of famous explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott, and became stepfather to Kathleen's son, the naturalist Peter Scott. Lord Kennet wrote about the birds of the Kennet valley. The dust jacket states, 'His step-son, Peter Scott, has already won fame by his wildfowling pictures. He shows himself here as acute an observer of the humbler birds of our hedgerows and fields'.
