Description:
Rare books about Brazil published from 1504 to 1900 and works of Brazilian authors of the Colonial Period. Revised and enlarged second edition of this standard bibliography. Text English. Since 1958 the Bibliographia Brasiliana has been the standard reference source for libraries, scholars, and the book trade on rare books about Brazil. This thoroughly revised, corrected and expanded edition contains fifty percent more material than the first edition. In more than 10,000 citations the author describes works published abroad from 1504 to 1900 and works of Brazilian authors published before the independence of Brazil in 1822. Illustrated with 300 title page reproductions. In the commentaries the author assesses the importance of the books with respect to Brazil, and discusses how they came to be written, their character, and their history. Descriptions and collations are brief and clear. References to additional bibliographic sources have been confined to classic works and those presenting the most complete descriptions.
