Description:
First edition, complete in two volumes. Rare. In this work Wiedemann describes 1000 new species and redescribes 500 (mainly Fabrician) species. This work supplements that of Meigen, who described only European species, and like Meigen introduces many new genera. The plates are drawn and lithographed by J.W. Meigen, and were done as repayment to Wiedemann for his generosity towards him. Plates numbered I-VI, VIb, VII-IX, Xa, Xb).
Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann (1770-1840), was a German physician and entomologist. He is best known for his studies of world Diptera.
