A Bryophyte Flora of South Hants was published by Jean Paton in 1961. Following this there was only limited systematic recording of byrophytes in south Hampshire between 1960 and 2000. However, mainly as a result of site surveys, many new records were made during this 40 year period, the majority from around the mid-1970s by F. Rose, R.C. Stern and N.A. Sanderson
