Description:
This unique book on the Wildlife of Cyprus aims to introduce the reader to the fauna of an island strongly influenced by its position at the juncture of Africa, Asia and Europe. It brings together 44 authors, Cypriot and international, recognized for having expertise in their respective fields. Included are chapters on invertebrates and vertebrates, together with introductory chapters on Geography, Climate, Geology, Habitats and Taxonomy. Detailed information is provided for many faunal groups, while for others (those with species too numerous to cover in full or with appeal mainly to the specialist) the authors have included a representative selection of the more commonly seen species. It is hoped that this approach, aided by over 1,000 photographs (provided by 107 photographers), together with numerous illustrations and tables, will encourage interest in the diverse wildlife of Cyprus and help familiarise the reader with many of the species encountered on this fascinating east Mediterranean island.
