First edition. An account of the author's travels in East Africa among the native Kavirondo, while carrying out a geological investigation on behalf of the British Museum, of some Miocene deposits near Karungu, on the east coast of Victoria Nyanza.

8vo, orig. maroon cloth. Some foxing to prelims and occasionally elswhere. Signed inscription from the author. Bookplate of Frank Merry Stenton and Doris Mary Stenton, Whitley Park Farm, Reading. Frank Stenton (1880-1967) was an English historian of Anglo-Saxon period, Professor of history (1926-1946) and vice-chancellor (1946-1950) of the University of Reading, and president of the Royal Historical Society (1937-1945). His wife, Doris Mary Stenton (1894-1971) was also a historian of the Middle Ages.
