Description:
Introductory guide to Australain butterflies. Includes sections on key species and families. For many species all stages of the lifecycle are illustrated, with images of eggs, caterpillars at various stages of development, and chrysalises, together with male and females where sexes differ in appearance. Includes 'quick comparison' guides to similar species, including many of those in the Brown and Blue families. Closing chapters include sections on how to tell a butterfly from a moth, key habitats, threats and conservation, and planting your backyard for butterflies. Images are taken from the author's own collection which he has built up over many decades. Introductory chapters cover life cycle, defense mechanisms (camouflage, mimicry, etc), feeding and introduced species. Also with sections on threats and conservation and tips on butterfly gardening.
