Third impression (first published 1897). Edmund Gosse (1849-1928) was an English poet, author and critic. He was the son of Philip Henry Gosse, naturalist and author. He was brought up in the Protestant sect, the Plymouth Brethren, but later broke away and rejected that faith.

8vo, cont. full blue prize calf, lightly rubbed, gilt double-ruled border and emblem of St Andrew's College, Grahamstown, South Africa, to front board, raised bands to spine with gilt tooling to compartments, red leather title piece, blind tooling to turn-ins; marbled endpapers and edges. Some foxing to beginning and end. Prize bookplate dated 1905. Fine binding. Vg.
