Description:
Limited edition of 125 signed and numbered copies.
This new monograph deals with the history of the Marsh Warbler from its first identification in Britain to time of the loss of the old populations in the mid-1990s with some later data and is the result of over 15 years of historical research and fieldwork both in Britain and on the near continent. In particular, there is a detailed history of breeding records and distribution from Gloucestershire where it was an iconic and much sought-after species amongst Oologists and other observers.
Various chapters deal with identification, migration, breeding biology, international status, historical records from all other counties apart from Gloucestershire (many of which have not previously been recorded or recognised), BTO nest records, the collectors, the dealers, the Cuckoo, the Law etc. Historical data is sourced from egg collections in Britain and the USA, journals, diaries, notebooks etc., published papers, articles, letters and notes from The Zoologist, British Birds, Jourdain Society Bulletins, The Oologists’ Record, The Oologists’ Exchange and Mart, local and national newspapers and some previously published books and accounts. Other data is taken from fieldwork in Britain, France, Belgium and The Netherlands during the 20th and 21st centuries.
