William Yarrell (1784-1856) was a zoologist, fellow of the Linnean Society of London and original member of the Zoological Society (founded 1826). Yarrell’s books, A History of British Fishes and The History of British Birds served as a prototype for a series of books by other writers, published by John Van Voorst, mostly dealing with invertebrates.
