Description:
First edition. Rare. Provides a summary of British birds (337 species) with characters of the genera, etc., and number of occurrences of rare visitors. 'The object of the compilation of the accompanying Chart is to present to the tyro in the science, a Systematic Catalogue of the Birds of Britain, which shall enable him with facility to refer to its own Order, Family, and Genus, any Species which may come under his notice.' '...it is hoped that this Chart may often prove of service to the naturalist, young in science, who can, in the words of Dr. Lindley, "find other pleasures in a country life besides hunting, coursing, fishing, and shooting," and who delights to trace, in the infinitely varied works of Creative Power, the all-surpassing skill and wisdom of the mind that devised and the hand that fashioned them.'
Mullens & Swann p. 40; Freeman 200.
