Helophoridae 9 including 2 terrestrial species; Hydrochidae 1; Hydrophilidae 47

mostly terrestrial species); Hydraenidae 8; Scirtidae 8; Elmidae 2; Dryopidae 3;

By: MICHAEL ARCHER
Page: 169-179
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The species and numbers of solitary wasps and bees found in 12 gardens are analysed.
Analysis includes the use of the species indices of quality, parasitic (mainly cleptoparasitic)
behaviour and nesting habits. An attempt is made to explain the differences in wasp and bee
numbers and diversities between the gardens to increase understanding of the ecology of
these species and their conservation requirements in urban and suburban gardens.
