Remarks on the identity and distribution of Styphlus syriacus Stierlin, 1881, and S. penicillus Schoenherr, 1826, (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Styphlini)
By: CHRISTOPH GERMANN
Page: 151–158
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The holotypes of Styphlus syriacus Stierlin, 1881, and Styphlus penicillus Schoenherr, 1826,
were examined. As a consequence, other available specimens of both species were re-examined,
which led to a re-evaluation of their morphological characters, and distribution. Styphlus syriacus
is widely distributed in the eastern Mediterraneum, whereas S. penicillus is restricted to Mallorca
and southern France.

Hydroptila vectis Curtis, 1834, new to Ireland and the first Irish adult of Tricholeiochiton fagesii (Guinard, 1879) (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae)
By: JAMES P. O’CONNOR
Page: 163–167
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The caddisfly Hydroptila vectis Curtis, 1834, (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) is added to the Irish
list based on four males taken in a Malaise trap in Glenveagh National Park, Co. Donegal, in
north-west Ireland. In addition, a female of the caddisfly Tricholeiochiton fagesii (Guinard, 1879)
was collected in another Malaise trap in the Ballycroy National Park, Co. Mayo. This is the first
Irish adult of the species although the larvae have been taken at several other localities.

Catocala Schrank species (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) in Iran with new distribution data
By: SOUSAN ALAVI, MEHDI ESFANDIARI & MOHAMMAD MAHDI RABIEH
Page: 179–186
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The holarctic moth genus Catocala Schrank (1802) (Erebidae: Erebinae, Catocalini) includes
about 300 species that are often monophagous on oak (Quercus), willow (Salix) and poplar
(Populus). In this research, we studied the moths of the genus Catocala in Iran that were collected
by light traps in different Iranian provinces, mostly during 2010 –2018. Our results revealed eight
species and two subspecies of Catocala from the provinces of Kermanshah, Lorestan,
Chaharmahal-va Bakhtiari, Ilam, Khuzestan, Kohgiluyeh-va Boyerahmad, Fars, Kerman,
Khorasan-e Jonubi, Yazd and Khorasan-e Razavi. Among the records there are 14 new provincial
records. Overall, we list 20 species and four subspecies of Catocala as occurring in Iran. This list
is compiled from our own research and a review of existing literature.
New species of Ctenaugochlora from northwestern Ecuador (Hymenoptera: Halictidae)
By: MICHAEL S. ENGEL
Page: 187–192
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The bee subgenus Ctenaugochlora Eickwort (Halictinae: Augochlorini) is recorded from
Ecuador for the first time, and a new species is described and figured. Caenaugochlora
(Ctenaugochlora) isaaci sp. n., represents the first confident record of its subgenus in South
America and can be distinguished from its closest relatives on the basis of head shape,
integumental sculpture, inner metatibial spur morphology, propodeal lamellae, and general
coloration. A revised key to the species of Ctenaugochlora is provided.

Synopsis:
Invasive scale insects are reported for the first time feeding on the threatened endemic
Kiaerskov’s lidflower Calyptranthes kiaerskovii and Thomas’ lidflower Calyptranthes
thomasiana (Myrtaceae) in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Ceroplastes floridensis Comstock,
Ceroplastes rubens Maskell, Paratachardina pseudolobata Kondo & Gullan and an
undetermined diaspidid were found on C. kiaerskovii; and C. rubens, Ceroplastes stellifer
(Westwood), P. pseudolobata and an undetermined asterolecaniid on C. thomasiana. The
significance of these findings and the on-going threats faced by these plant species in the wild are
discussed. C. rubens, C. stellifer, P. howertoni Hodges & Hodgson and P. pseudolobata are
recorded here for the first time from BVI.
