Teleiopsis diffinis (Haworth, 1828) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae): larvae found mining leaves of Rumex acetosa L. in Devon, England; behaviour and foodplant apparently not previously published
By: R. J. HECKFORD & S. D. BEAVAN
Page: 1–15
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
An account is given of the discovery of the early instar(s) larva of Teleiopsis diffinis (Haworth,
1828) found mining leaves of Rumex acetosa L. in Devon, England. Not only does this appear
to be the first occasion when the larva has been observed to be a leaf-miner but it also appears
to be only the second time that Rumex acetosa has been recorded as a foodplant in Europe (the
first was nearly 130 years ago and was unpublished). Leaf-mines on Rumex acetosa found in the
same area made by the larva of a Mantura species of Coleoptera are also considered. Various
British and mainland European publications on the biology and larval description are reviewed.

A second generation of Theresimima ampellophaga (Bayle-Barelle, 1808) (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae, Procridinae) discovered by using the sex attractant EFETOV-2 on the Kassandra peninsula (Halkidiki) in Greece
By: GERHARD M. TARMANN, KONSTANTIN A. EFETOV & ELENA E. KUCHERENKO
Page: 19–26
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
A second generation of the vine bud moth Theresimima ampellophaga (Bayle-Barelle, 1808)
is recorded from the northern Greek peninsula of Kassandra (Halkidiki). It was discovered on
a systematic search for suitable habitats on the peninsula in September 2018 by using the sex
attractant EFETOV-2 (the racemic mixture of (2R)-butyl 2-dodecenoate and (2S)-butyl 2-
dodecenoate). The interesting restricted distribution of the species on Kassandra and its
possible historical background are discussed.
The rediscovery of the Southern Swallowtail (Papilio alexanor Esper, 1799) in Bosnia & Herzegovina after 50 years of absence
By: TONI KOREN & MATEA MARTINOVIĆ
Page: 27–30
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The caterpillars of the Southern Swallowtail, Papilio alexanor have been recorded in the
vicinity of Trebinje, Bosnia & Herzegovina. This is the first recent observation of this species
in the country and the third observation so far. Opopanax chironium is confirmed as the larval
host plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was expected due to the recent observations from
Croatia. Its status and distribution in the country are still not clear, and further surveys are
recommended in order to reconfirm the historical records as well as to assess its current
conservation status. Due to the limited extent of its occurrence, we propose to include it in the
Red list of fauna of Bosnia & Herzegovina as Vulnerable (VU).
Neoxorides nitens (Gravenhorst, 1829) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Poemeniinae), a genus and species new to Britain
By: JASWINDER S. BOPARAI, JOHN P. BURNHAM & GAVIN R. BROAD
Page: 31–37
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
Neoxorides nitens (Gravenhorst, 1829) is reliably recorded for the first time in Britain, based
on specimens collected in the Wyre Forest, Worcestershire, and both sexes photographed in
Lord’s Piece, West Sussex. Six British species of Poemeniinae are now known. Notes on
identification are provided and an updated key to the British genera of Poemeniinae is
included.
A note on late – and early – records of some common butterflies in Andalucia (Cádiz, Spain)
By: W. JOHN TENNENT
Page: 38–40
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
Ca 11 species of butterflies were observed above the village of Jimena de la Frontera,
Andalucia, Cádiz, Spain, in late December 2017 and early January 2018. Remarkably, they
include a pair of Lasiommata megera (Linnaeus, 1757) in copula on 1 January.

Further studies on Melitaea arduinna (Esper, [1873]) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), with observations on early stages and host-plants, from the Levant populations in Upper Galilee and the Samarian Desert, Israel
By: DUBI BENYAMINI & PETER RUSSELL
Page: 43–54
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The life history and host-plants of two populations of Melitaea arduinna from Israel are
described and illustrated. Their final instar larvae, adult wing morphology and wingspans are
compared with those of the same species from Russia, the Caucasus and the Balkans. The
taxonomic position of the Levant populations is discussed.
