Thektogaster chrysis (Förster, 1861) added to the British list with first host records for it and other Miscogasterinae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae)
By: H. CHARLES J. GODFRAY & KEITH P. BLAND
Page: 1–8
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
New distributional and biological records are provided for wasps in the subfamily
Miscogasterinae (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), reared from Diptera in Scotland and northern
England. Thektogaster chrysis (Förster, 1861) is added to the British list based on specimens
reared from Gimnomera tarsea (Fallén) (Scathophagidae), a first host record for the genus.
Rhicnocoelia constans (Walker, 1836) is reared from Loxocera sylvatica Meigen (Psilidae), the
first European host record for the genus. Nodisoplata diffinis (Walker, 1874) is reared from Egle
spp. (Anthomyiidae) in Salix catkins, a first host record for the genus. Ardilea convexa (Walker,
1833) is reared from an Agromyzidae on Tripolium pannonicum, a first host record for the genus.
Mites (Acari) in the Manchester Museum: Curators and a committee
By: GRAHAM S. PROUDLOVE, LAURENCE M. COOK & DMITRI V. LOGUNOV
Page: 9–27
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
The Manchester Museum has a series of collections of mites and ticks as a consequence of
donations and the activities of members of the Museum at different times. Brief details of the

can be provided on application to the Entomology Department.
Sympiesis notata (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Eulophidae), a gregarious parasitoid of Hesperiidae (Lepidoptera), and some records of other Chalcidoidea associated with skipper butterflies in the Western Palaearctic
By: RICHARD R. ASKEW & MARK R. SHAW
Page: 28–32
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
Sympiesis notata is a gregarious ectoparasitoid of skipper butterfly caterpillars. Other
Lepidoptera larvae in leaf mines and leaf folds are attacked by the same morphospecies, but on
these smaller hosts S. notata is usually a solitary parasitoid. Other Chalcidoidea recorded as
reared from hesperiid hosts are mostly species of Brachymeria (Chalcididae) and Elasmus
(Eulophidae), which are primary parasitoids, and Catolaccus (Pteromalidae) which are
pseudohyperparasitoids attacking cocooned ichneumonoid primary parasitoids. Species of
Pteromalus, Baryscapus and Tetrastichus are also reported as secondary parasitoids from
hesperiid hosts.

Notes on South American stingless bees of the genus Scaptotrigona (Hymenoptera: Apidae), Part I: short-bristle species, the tubiba species group
By: MICHAEL S. ENGEL
Page: 41–59
Type: Paper
Synopsis:
Among the diversity of the stingless bee genus Scaptotrigona Moure (Apinae: Meliponini)
there are a set of distinctive species distinguished from all others by their sparse and short bristles
on the head and mesosoma, here treated as the tubiba species group. Four species are included in
this group, two of which are new to Science: Scaptotrigona pasiphaea, sp. n., from southern
Amazonian Peru, and S. silviae, sp. n., from eastern and southeastern Brazil. The remaining two
species are S. tubiba (Smith) and S. affabra (Moure). A key is provided for their identification.

Type: Paper
Synopsis:
A short series of moth specimens obtained by W.F. Dale at Darwin Harbour, East Falkland
Island in 1893 is identified as being similar to Plutella rectivittella Zeller, 1877, from South
